This page explains what AUTOMATA collects when you use this site and the app, what we never collect, and how to reach us. It is written in plain language on purpose.
AUTOMATA is automated technical report writing for psychoeducational and clinical assessment reports, made in Frazier Park, California. Kevin Valentine, PhD, Licensed Educational Psychologist, a practicing school psychologist, built it and answers privacy questions personally at info@valentine-labs.com.
Google tells us your email address, your name, and your profile picture, and confirms the email is verified. We use the email to check it against our subscriber list and to show your name on the members page. We never see or store your Google password. We ask Google for nothing else — no access to your Drive, Gmail, Calendar, or contacts through the sign-in.
The online app asks Google only for access to the files you pick or create with AUTOMATA (Google's "drive.file" permission). It cannot see or change anything else in your Drive, and it reads and writes those files from your own browser. AUTOMATA's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
One row in a private spreadsheet: email, the date your plan is paid through, and short notes (for example, which plan you chose). It exists so the door opens for you and closes when a subscription ends.
After you sign in we set one cookie that remembers you on that browser for seven days. It is signed so it cannot be altered, and it holds only your email, your name, and your paid-through date. Google's sign-in button sets its own short-lived security cookie. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
If you request the free report template or use the contact form, we receive what you type (name, email, role, state or message). Those answers are stored by our host, Netlify, and emailed to us so we can reply. Emails you send to info@valentine-labs.com are kept as ordinary correspondence.
The chat button in the corner answers common questions from a fixed list of facts about AUTOMATA. If none fits, the question you typed — and nothing else about you — is sent to Anthropic's Claude to write an answer from those same facts. Questions are not tied to your account and we do not keep them. Please do not type student information into it.
Our hosting provider, Netlify, keeps standard server logs (page requested, time, approximate location from the network address) for security and reliability, as every host does.
AUTOMATA works inside your own accounts. The desktop app reads and writes files on your computer and, when you connect it, your own Google Drive and Google Sheets. The online version does the same from your browser. Our servers see who signed in and whether the subscription is active — nothing about a student.
If a future feature needs a server to process a file (for example, reading a scanned PDF), the file passes through in memory for that one step and is not stored. We will say so on this page before any such feature is switched on.
